Damp in the walls, what is the best dehumidifier?

We bought a tiny one for mum's desk before the extent of the problem showed up through the fresh paint but, as the house has warmed up, damp seems to be sucking through the walls. Sandstone house with pebble-dashed outer coat.

Every room has black patches staining the walls somewhere and the windows are wet most of the day.

Have the heat on all the time to help but I think it needs a proper bit of kit to sort it properly.

Anyone know the best size, kind, brand, whatnot to recommend?

And is it better to get two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs?

A dehumidifier should be placed in the room where it is most needed. Because moisture problems are widespread in bedrooms, basements, laundry rooms, crawl spaces, and indoor pool areas, dehumidifiers are commonly installed in these places. The size of the dehumidifier depends on the size of the room, the bigger room you have, the bigger dehumidifier you will need, and vice versa.
